Koubachi is certainly the best and most joyful way to care for your plants. But even we aren't perfect. Unfortunately. If you have any problems with our website or iPhone App please you may want to check our frequently asked questions below.
What about bonsais?
Bonsais can be cultivated out of many different plant species. The best option is to choose the Bonsai's species from the Koubachi plant cyclopedia (e.g. Ficus pumila). Instead of the fertilizer recommended in the instructions, use a specific Bonsai fertilizer with low nitrogen (N) content.
How can I reset my password?
In the iPhone App, just click on the tab Settings, then on your username, “Sign in” and “Forgot your password”. In the my.koubachi Web App just click on “Forgot password?” on the login form and insert your e-mail address. In both cases, we will send you detailed information how to reset your password by e-mail.
With which browser can I access my.koubachi?
The my.koubachi Web App works with most of the common Internet browsers (e.g., Safari, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer etc.). Make sure to use the last available version of your browser. We do not support Internet Explorer 7.0 (and lower versions) any longer.
How much does Koubachi cost?
The Koubachi iPhone App and Web App are both available free of charge.
How can I delete my account?
If you want to delete your account you need to access your account via my.koubachi.com. There you can click on your email on the right blue top bar, select “Profile” and then click on “Delete account”. Remember that if you delete your account, all user data will be lost, including all your plants. In addition, you will not be able to access your account from the iPhone anymore.
On which iOS devices does Koubachi work?
The Koubachi iPhone App was designed for iPhone and iPod touch but runs on iPad as well. Koubachi requires iOS 4.1 or later.
How can I recalibrate my plants?
In case you need to recalibrate your plant (e.g., after repotting), open the Care View and click on the water-icon for more than 2 seconds. The app will then ask you, if you want to recalibrate the plant. Click "Yes" to recalibrate.
How can I change the date of the last event (e.g. watering or fertilizing)?
Open the Plant Care View, click on the corresponding icon (e.g., water) and then click on the date to change it. Do not forget to click “Done” to confirm. It is not possible to change the last date of watering if you are using a Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor, as the sensor measures when you have last watered your plant. You will still be able to change the date of the last misting and fertilizing event.
I have an Android smart phone and would like to buy a Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor.
Yes, you can! You can use the my.koubachi Web App as your user interface – please also see: „Can I also use my.koubachi with my tablet or smart phone other than an iPhone, iPad?“ in the respective section of the FAQs. We are also working on a dedicated Android App, coming out soon.
To configure the Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor, you need to use a laptop or Wi-Fi enabled desktop PC, as most Android smart phones do not support the Wi-Fi ad-hoc mode used for configuration.
The Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor is blinking red. What is wrong?
The Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor blinks red when no Wi-Fi connection is available. Please check your Wi-Fi network by visiting a website, for e.g. www.koubachi.com.
If your sensor is blinking, you may press the button once to force it to transmit data. Usually, this resolves the issue.
If the Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor keeps blinking red after you verified your Wi-Fi connection, please re-configure the sensor. To do so, visit http://go.koubachi.com and follow the well-illustrated instructions in the configuration assistant.
Where do I stick the Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor into my pot?
Ideally place the Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor in the pot/container/flower bed, making sure that no leaves or flowers cover the sensor to ensure correct light measurements.
What about outdoor plants?
The Koubachi system (iPhone App, Web App) is optimized for indoor and outdoor plants. To be able to use Koubachi for your outdoor plants, you need a Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor Outdoor. For indoor plants you can simply your the App without a sensor. With a sensor the advices will be much more exact and you will get additional information about light and temperature conditions.
Do I need a charged subscription to use the Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor?
No charged subscription is required to use the Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor. All online services are included in the price of the sensor. The user interfaces are available for free: register for free at my.koubachi.com or download the free iPhone App in the AppStore. With the purchase of a Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor you get additional free information about the needs of your plant and graphs to monitor your plant’s vitality in real time.
Do I need a Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor for every plant?
No. You can alternate the Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor among your plants.
The Koubachi Plant Care Engine uses the time with the sensor to refine the
care plan of each individual plant and considers this information even if
you put the sensor to another plant.
We recommend leaving the Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor at a single plant for
the duration of at least two completed water cycles (time from the first
watering until the next watering) to guarantee an accurate adaptation of
the Scientific Species Model. The longer you leave the Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant
Sensor with a plant, the more our Plant Care Engine will learn from your
data.
To take perfect care of your outdoor plants, we advise to use one device
per plant.
How can I change the date of the last event (e.g. watering or fertilizing)?
Open the Plant Care View and click on the desired task icon. Change the date of the last event by clicking on the current date on the right hand side of the corresponding icon. You can also set the time of the last watering using he green scroll bars. Don’t forget to click “Apply time” to confirm.
It is not possible to change the last date of watering if you are using a Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor, as the sensor measures when you have last watered your plant. You will still be able to change the date of the last misting and fertilizing event.
How can I delete a plant?
Simply drag your plant to the compost on the top right corner of the gray field. You will then be asked to confirm the action. Press “Recycle” (iPhone App) or “Ok” (Web App) to confirm.
What does the Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor measure and how does it work?
The Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor measures the key vitality parameters of
your plant: soil moisture, light intensity and temperature. By means of a
built-in Wi-Fi module, the data is sent to the Koubachi Plant Care Engine,
where the plant's vitality is determined. The Koubachi Plant Care Engine
will then provide you with detailed care instructions through the Koubachi
iPhone App or my.koubachi Web App.
The Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor Indoor is conceived to support you in the
care of your houseplants, while the Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor Outdoor
will remind and advice you about your outdoor plants.
How long do the batteries last?
The batteries have an average running time of over 1 year. The Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor uses 2x AA non-rechargeable alkaline batteries.
Where can I purchase the Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor?

What is the warranty on the Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor?
The Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor benefits from a 24 months warranty period. For more details, please consult of our full Warranty Statement.
How does a "restart" of the configuration modus of the Wi-Fi Plant Sensor work?
Briefly press the sensor button so that the light indicator goes out. Now press the sensor button for 3 seconds until the light indicator turns orange.
I can't see the "koubachi_config" Wi-Fi network.
Most probably the "koubachi_config" network is not ready yet. It might take up to 30 seconds until you can see it in your wireless network list.
In some systems you are able to manually re-scan for wireless networks.
If afterwards you are still not able to see the wireless network, make sure that the sensor is not too far away from your computer.
Check if the light indicator lights up orange. If you still can't see the "koubachi_config" network, preform a "restart" of the configuration modus of the Wi-Fi Plant Sensor.
How can I manually start a measurement?
If you briefly press the sensor button, the Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor measures and transmits immediately.
Consider that the soil moisture can be measured at most every 10 minutes.
The soil moisture sensor requires up to an hour to adapt to a new environment and provides accurate measurement results for it.
How can I recalibrate my plants?
In case you need to recalibrate your plant (e.g., after repotting), open the Plant Info View and click on the recalibration button shown after your notes.
The Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor is analyzing temperature and light condition. How long does this take?
For a better analysis of the environmental conditions of your plant, the Koubachi Wi-FI Plant Sensor analyses the temperature for 3 and the light conditions for 7 days.
I have completed the configuration successfully, but I do not see the sensor.
In that case, please close the configuration window and go to your plant. Click on the sensor icon and then click on "Associate sensor with plant". Then press shortly the sensor button to connect it and wait a moment. The plant should be connected within 30 seconds with the sensor. If not, please write to our support.
Can I use the Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor in my garden / outdoor?
Yes, if you have a Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor Outdoor. The outdoor sensor is fully rainproof (IPx4 certified) and can be used outdoor. We advice to use the sensor for potted plants (pots, containers, ..) or small flowerbeds.
Take into account that the sensor works from 0°C to 50 °C. We thus advise to take the sensor indoor at low temperatures as the batteries would be consumed very quickly in such low temperatures.
What's the difference between the Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor Indoor and the Outdoor version?
The Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor Indoor is designed for houseplants and indoor use only. The Outdoor version is IPx4 certified and thus fully rainproof and suitable for your outdoor plants. Of course you can use the Outdoor version also for your indoor plants.
How can I find my plant?
To find your plant you can either:
- Scroll through the library (you can sort by common or scientific name.
- Use the wizard in the iPhone App (click on “Wizard” in the right top corner and choose the growth form and leaf characteristics of your plant)
- Use the filter in the my.koubachi Web App (on the left side in the library you can choose the growth form and leaf characteristics of your plant)
- Search for your plant's name in the search bar (insert either the common name or the scientific name). It is also possible to look for the family name of the plant.
What do the different LED colors mean?
The LED colors have the following meaning (for further information download our Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor manual):
- Green: sensor is measuring
- Green (blinking): sensor is transmitting data
- Orange: configuration mode
- Red (blinking): the sensor is unable to reach the Koubachi Server
When is the soil dry?
The easiest way to determine the soil moisture is to use your finger or a pencil.
- 1. Insert your finger about 2 inches into the soil.
- 2. The soil is dry, when the soil particles don't stick together anymore.
How do I correctly calibrate a plant?
Calibration is done in three easy steps:
- 1. Water your plant and make sure it is fully wet.
- 2. Koubachi will then ask you to check the soil moisture once a day.
- 3. The cycle is established once the soil is dry.
