When plants are subjected to suboptimal growing conditions, they are under stress. This affects growth and survival. Therefore, Koubachi monitors limitations and excesses of the main vital factors. The Koubachi Plant Sensors measure soil moisture, sunlight, infrared light, ambient temperature and more to determine the vitality and exact needs of your plants.

Accurate Plant Care Advice

We don't just consider sensor measurements but also in-depth knowledge about each species, climate, season and user preferences. Unlike any other solution, Koubachi calculates an individual care plan for every single one of your plants. As a result Koubachi can provide you with highly specific care advice, and if necessary plant-saving alerts.

One Sensor - Multiple Plants

Thanks to the self-learning sensor you can use one sensor to take care of up to 27 plants across your home. Put the sensor in one indoor plant, give it a little bit of time and Koubachi has learned everything it needs to know to pro­vide you with accurate advice.

Koubachi App

Notifications, advice and alarms are directly sent to you through push notifications or by e-mail. All your data, plants and settings are syn­chro­nized to the Koubachi cloud and thus always up-to-date on all devices. The app also helps you to identify your plants, or find additional in-depth information on hundreds of species. Available for iOS, Android or accessible via web browser.

Superior Soil Sensor

Our patented soil moisture sensor - like a tensiometer, the tool used by professionals - measures the soil moisture tension. It determines the quantity of water that is actually available to the plants' roots regardless of the soil type. Unlike cheaper methods (electrical conductivity, dielectric permittivity, capacitivity etc.) Koubachi measures with high accuracy, independent of soil conditions (e.g. content of ions). No calibration needed. Works in every soil substrate with unmatched precision.

Scientific Plant Care Models

Koubachi is able to precisely determine the needs of your plants. Our plant care models were developed with leading scientists of ETH Zurich and validated in numerous greenhouse experiments. For each species, we have determined the optimal values of all vital parameters and for each time of the year. Moreover, we have established the thresholds at which non-reversible damage will occur.

Personalized Notifications

With your permission we will send you a message with detailed care instructions at the right time. These notifications are customizable and tailored to your preferences. Select about which parameters you wish to be informed. Choose how often and at what time you prefer to be notified. Decide whether you want to receive a push-notification, an e-mail or both.

Light Quality

A high ratio of photosynthetically active radiation is crucial to a plant's growth and well being. That's why Plant Sensor 2 Indoor also measures infrared radiation (IR) and can differentiate between sunlight and artificial light. We know which light conditions are most appropriate for optimum growth of your plants.


At Koubachi we are fully aware of the sensitivity of your data. Koubachi Plant Sensor 2 supports WEP, WPA and WPA2. In addition, every sensor gets its unique 128-bit AES key already during production. All communication between your sensor and the Koubachi system is securely encrypted at any time.


Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor 2 works with two standard AA batteries. The first set of batteries is already included and it's very easy to change batteries. Thanks to our Ultra-Low-Power radio technology we achieve never seen battery performance with Wi-Fi. The batteries last for at least one year.

Usage Tips

Indoor Use

Koubachi Wi-Fi Plant Sensor 2 Indoor is for indoor use only. The sensor is splash-proof but not rain-proof.

Sensor Tip

It is best not to touch the sensor tip as this might influence soil moisture measurements. If you feel the soil moisture sensor does not measure properly anymore, clean its tip with a little bit of pre-diluted dish liquid and a lot of water. Extra rinse with clean water. Do not use aggressive chemicals. Do not use substances containing oil or detergents containing lipid replenishers (moisturizers).

Avoid Expanded Clay

Plant Sensor 2 works in every soil substrate (even sand, orchid substrate etc.). However, for optimal results we do not recommend to use our sensors with expanded clay pebbles (foamed clay pebbles).

Bury the Sensor Spike

Gently stick the sensor stake into the ground as deep as possible. Place the sensor tip near to the root ball. Ideally, only the round sensor head will peek out of the ground.

Visibility of Measurements in the App

In the Koubachi App for each of your plants you can access a Care View (green-icon with leaf). Like a control panel, this view shows you the levels of all vital parameters (water, misting, fertilizer, temperature, light). Please note that it takes some time, until changes (e.g. after watering) are confirmed and represented in this view. If you would like to see an update of current measurements, just briefly press the button on the sensor and up-to-date measurements will be shown within seconds in the Sensor View (grey sensor icon).
